Task 8: Proposal
First Clip: Life on Mars
Client
The
first film/TV is that I am going to use for my soundtrack production is Life of
Mars. My client is Bharat Nalluri. Bharat Nalluri is a British television
director, he has directed films like Torchwood: Miracle Day, Miss Pettigrew
Lives for a Day, The Crow: Salvation and Downtime.
Target Audience
The
BBC stated that Life on Mars was targeted at an adult audience. Looking at the
graph (source: Imbd) BBC targeted at the right audience because most of the
viewers over 18 watched this program more. It seem that people aged 30 – 44
enjoyed this program because 6811 rated and watched this. This TV show is aimed
at both males and females but according to this graph, more males watched this
than females. The content of the TV shows that this aimed at a British audience
and also because it was aired on BBC which is watch by British viewers. Also
because this TV series is set in a Britain and it uses British slang that
international viewer might not understand. Life on Mars is about a man called Sam Tyler
who gets struck by a car and wakes up in the 1973. The genre of this TV series is Crime Drama so this will appeal to the fans of this genre. Sound FX
For
this task I would be using Foley for example recording traffic, opening and closing doors for the shot where Sam close his car door, banging on the wall to create the sound where Sam bangs he car door. I will be recording this on a dynamic microphone and will be recording most of the sound outside because the scene was set out sound so it will have a better and more realistic ambient noise like the wind and the rain rather than recording indoors which doesn't have that effect. I will also be creating sounds on garageband that I could not record outside for example when he get hit by the car. I don't know what instruments I am going to be using but I am going to be using trail and error to find the the right sound. I am also going to be downloading sound like the window rolling and the seatbelt noise because I can't think of anyways of creating these sound. These sound will be from YouTube and there could be some copyright issues (The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, is the current UK copyright law. It gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works the right to control the ways in which their material may be used. The rights cover: Broadcast and public performance, copying, adapting, issuing, renting and lending copies to the public. In many cases, the creator will also have the right to be identified as the author and to object to distortions of his work) to prevent this from happening you could asked the owner of the sound if they can use the sound or give credit to the artist. Music information
Music information
I will be downloading 'Life on Mars - David Bowie' to use in my clip as a diegetic sound because this is audio was shown in the scene playing on his iPhone so it makes sense to put this audio in my clip. This also may cause copyright issues as I willing creates a quite a depressing and upsetting mood which fits well with the clip because the character seems the same. In a professional situation, if I was going to put an artist music track in my video I would have obtain a recording license from the rights holder in the recording which would be either the artist or the producer or the record company, you would probably be asked to pay a royalties fee. (Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/filmmaking/guide/before-you-start/music-rights#original ). At the beginning of the track it is suppose to make the viewers feel or understand that the character in the feel quite mournful or depressed.
Harry Brown - Torture
Client
The director for this film is Daniel Barber, he is directed films like The Tonto Woman and Substitution. The film is about an elderly ex-serviceman and widower looks to avenge his best friend's murder by doling out his own form of justice. The genre of this film action/crime/drama.
Target Audience
Harry Brown is rated 18 by the BBFC "contains very strong language, strong violence, hard drug use and sex" this means that it is aimed at a young adult audience. Even though this film is rated 18, I do think that people under the age of 18 would be attracted to watch this type of film. This film would also be more appealing to the male audience as more males like to watch more violent and masculine films. Also the main characters in this film are males, so this could relate to the male audience. According to imbd (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1289406/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt#reports), 50813 males and 4742 females watched this movie which supports what I previously said about males being the main target. According to this graph less female watched this program. This film would probably most likely be aimed at c1 people because of the setting and the theme of the movie would probably attract these types of audience. This film would mainly be targeted at UK residents because of the some language they used in this film.
Sound Effect FX
I will be using Foley in my production work. The first sound we hear is the light switching on, I could record me switching the lights off or on in the class room or even dropping a coin on to the pavement because I think that could reproduce the sound in the film. The next sound are the main character (Harry Brown) picking up the wire and walking towards the guy tired up. I reproduce these sounds by recording my footsteps on concrete because the character in the film is walking on concrete and also plastic bags to make the sound of his clothes and also him taking the plastic bag off his head. I will be downloading a whipping sound because I don't think I could reproduce that sound.
Music Effect
Even though is no diegetic or non diegetic sound in clip, I could use garageband to create a non-diegetic sound that could build up more of the tension and atmosphere in this scene.
Spoken Words Information
I will be getting two males from my class to record the speaking bits in the recording studio and then I will sync them up with the clip. The dialogue shows who is in power in this scene because the guy tied up is crying and sound terrified and the sounds in control so their are two different contrast of moods in the room. I will be using a dymantic mic to go outside and record with. Condenser mic to record in the radio studio.
